Two days ago in Pune, a minor driving a luxury Porsche car at high speed after an early morning alcohol party caused a devastating accident. The Porsche crashed into a two-wheeler, resulting in the immediate deaths of the rider, Aneesh, and his companion, Ashwini.
The minor driver was promptly arrested and presented in court. However, he was granted bail within 15 hours with the condition that he writes an essay about the accident. The young driver is the son of a prominent builder in Pune, leading to allegations of political pressure from a local Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA influencing his quick release. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has denied these allegations.
The Porsche involved in the accident lacked a number plate, and the minor did not possess a driving license. The police are now seeking to take action against the father for allowing his son to drive the car. The father was found hiding in Sambhaji Nagar after the accident and was arrested at a hotel based on the vehicle’s GPS data.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, “The pub owner, Naman, and staff members Sachin and Sandeep have been arrested for serving alcohol to the minor. We are also searching for two more individuals. The father of the minor tried to mislead the police by sending two cars to Mumbai and Pune, but he was tracked down through the GPS in a friend’s car.”
The commissioner added, “Before the accident, the minor and his friends incurred a bill of Rs. 48,000 at the first pub, where they stayed from 10:40 PM to 12:10 AM. They then moved to a second pub after the first one stopped serving food and drinks. The accident occurred after they left the second pub. Although the blood test results are pending, CCTV footage from the pubs indicates the minor was driving under the influence.”
This tragic incident has raised serious concerns about underage drinking, the responsibility of parents, and the enforcement of road safety laws in Pune.
